Madera is a restaurant that represents one of the symbols of Belgrade. For a long time, it has been a place where famous Belgrade journalists and artists spent most of their time. Madera is still is a favorite restaurant of many celebrities, singers, and businessmen. It is not just a place for dining, but for creating and socializing too. Some stories say that the name ‘’Madera’’ comes from a guest who brought a bottle of wine to this place from a Portuguese island of Madeira.

This venue has a very long tradition and history. The restaurant Madera was opened in 1937, and it has been renewed in 2003. But in fact, it is much older than that. At the place of the present-day building, there was a bistro (in Serbian: kafana) “Smederevo“. It was a popular gathering place of coachmen and blue-collar workers. Then, in the spirit of modernism, a multi-story building was built, with restaurant Madera being in the lobby.

Restaurant Madera is located in park Tašmajdan. It is one of Belgrade’s most beautiful parks. Madera is located just near the St. Mark’s Church, which is a must-see site of Belgrade. It is important to note that the parking is available for the guests.

A rolled veal or pork steak is stuffed with kajmak (a dairy product similar to cottage cheese), rolled, and then breaded and fried. It comes on a plate with garnish, such as roasted potatoes and tartar sauce.
