BELEF, short of Beogradski Letnji Festival – Belgrade Summer festival – is taking place from June 27th until July 10th, 2021. Under this year’s slogan “Belgrade Lives” multiple events will be held at different locations in Belgrade. Founder and patron of the Belgrade Summer Festival is the Assembly of the City of Belgrade. BELEF is one of the biggest and most significant cultural events, with 30-years old tradition.
This year, Belgraders and visitors will have a chance to watch the best dramas at our theaters, attend book promotions, listen to opera and watch visual and other performances. This year, the focus will be on drama plays, where the graduates of different Art Academies will perform as a part of their graduation project. Most of the performances are in Serbian languages, but that should not worry you. You can attend musicals or dance performances. After all, music and art are the common language, right?
BELEF Festival – What should you see!
Some of the events are free of charge, while for some, a ticket is required. To find out more, ask us, and we will tell you all the details about the specific performance you wish to attend.
On Sunday, July 4th, you will have an opportunity to enjoy in opera “Carmen”. Amazing Latvian mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča, who performed at Metropolitan Opera in New York, will sing for the Belgrade audience on Tašmajdan stadium.
On Tuesday, July 5th, at 21:00, visit Kalemegdan and enjoy the sounds of jazz. Belgrade’s band “Dvojac bez kormilara” will mesmerize you with the sounds of nu-jazz. That genre blends jazz sounds with other musical styles, for example, electronic music. However, the key is in free improvisation, and you will see why is this band the master of it.
Then, on Saturday, July 10th, at 20:30, the Faculty of Musical Arts opera studio will have their performance on Kalemegdan. Mozart’s opera Così fan tutte is on the repertoire. It will be the grand closing of BELEF, and we expect a large audience, so be there on time!
As we promised, the summer in Belgrade will be funny and full of events and festivals. We are happy to see that all the cultural activities have resumed. It is a perfect time to feel the spirit of the city, hang with locals, and maybe even make some friendships.
