In the summer of 2027, the whole world is coming to Belgrade. From May 15th to August 15th, Serbia hosts Specialised Expo 2027 in Belgrade. This is the biggest international event in the country’s history. For three months, more than a hundred nations will gather on the banks of the Sava and Danube to celebrate sport, music and the things that bring people together.
For a city that already lives loudly, this is the perfect stage. Belgrade has always been a place where strangers become friends over a glass of rakija, where the music doesn’t stop at midnight, and where every match feels like a final. Now the rest of the world gets to see it too.
What Is Expo 2027?
Expo 2027 in Belgrade is a Specialized World Expo, officially recognized by the Bureau International des Expositions. The same organization stands behind the great World Expos in Dubai and Osaka! Its theme is “Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All”, and it is hard to imagine a city that fits it better. Belgrade breathes football and basketball, and its nights are measured in songs rather than hours.
The Expo site is being built in Surčin, in the southwest of the city, right next to Nikola Tesla Airport and the Sava river. Over 100 countries are expected to take part with their own pavilions, alongside a thematic zone dedicated to sport and music and an area where companies show off their best ideas. Every day brings something new, from concerts and performances to talks and appearances by sport and music stars. Keep an eye out for Rastko and Milica, the two official mascots, who will be welcoming visitors all summer long.
The Expo is also changing the face of the city. A brand new 52,000-seat National Stadium and a modern aquatic center are rising next to the site, and they will stay as part of Belgrade’s legacy long after the last pavilion closes.

Why Belgrade Is the Place to Be in Summer 2027
Imagine visiting dozens of countries in a single afternoon, walking from one pavilion to the next, and then heading back into the city for dinner by the river as the sun goes down. That is what Expo 2027 offers, and it all happens during Belgrade’s most beautiful season. From mid-May to mid-August the evenings are long and warm. The café terraces are full, and the famous splavovi, the floating river clubs, are open until sunrise.
The spirit of the Expo will not stay behind the gates of the site, either. Sport and music will spill out into the streets, adding even more energy to a city already known for its summer festivals, open-air concerts and nightlife. And while much of Europe gets more expensive every year, Belgrade remains wonderfully good value for food, drinks and going out, even in its busiest summer ever.
The best part is that the Expo is only the beginning of your trip. Spend a day or two among the pavilions, then let the city show you the rest: the views from Kalemegdan Fortress, the bohemian evenings of Skadarlija, a slow walk along the Danube in Zemun, or a day trip to Novi Sad and the vineyards of Fruška Gora.
Planning Your Trip
If there is one piece of advice we can give, it is this: book early. Millions of visitors are expected over the three months of the Expo. Hotels, apartments and flights will fill up quickly, especially on weekends and around the biggest events. Securing your accommodation now means better prices and better locations.
Getting to the Expo is easy. The site sits right next to Nikola Tesla Airport. A new rail line connects Zemun, the airport and the Expo. There is even a river dock on the Sava. As for where to stay, the city center and Savamala are ideal if you want to be close to the nightlife and the main sights, while New Belgrade and Zemun put you a little closer to the Expo itself. If you are not sure which area suits you best, our guide Which Belgrade Neighborhood Should I Stay In? will help you decide.
Ticket sales and the full program will be available on the official Expo 2027 website. One full day is enough to see the highlights, but two days let you explore more pavilions and catch the evening shows, leaving the rest of your stay for Belgrade itself.
