The Museum of Contemporary Art of Belgrade will host one of the most famous names on the world fashion scene – Jean Paul Gaultier. His exhibition Love Is Love: Wedding Bliss for All will open on November 28, 2020. Hardly anyone will immediately think of the “bad kid” of French fashion to create wedding dresses. But during his long career, he managed to create many of them. In the field of high fashion, his name is synonymous with courage and uniqueness. Do not forget the promotion of cultural diversity, too.

The opening of the European premiere of the exhibition was originally planned for November 21. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, it will be postponed to November 28. The place of this event remained the same. Visitors who have already provided tickets for the exhibition via the Tickets.rs service will be able to exchange the purchase of a ticket. Not only that. They can exchange it for any other date during the exhibition.

Following the example of the world’s most reputable museums, the Museum of Contemporary Art will host one of the most renowned fashion designers. The retrospective traveled to 12 cities. It attracted more than 2 million visitors in 12 cities worldwide. Besides, this is known to be a fashion exhibition record.

What to expect?

Love is Love: Wedding Bliss for All includes 38 high-fashion wedding dresses. They are all created in the period from 1990 to 2020.

As always, we can expect a comprehensive, free, provocative fashion. The main goal of it is to allow emotions and critical thinking. Gaultier definitely gave a new look to the classic white dress. He strongly questions gender, ethnic and religious conventions. This exhibition reflects his commitment to the fight for human rights. It also promotes cultural diversity. In other words, it reflects Gaultier.

This is the finale of The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk exhibition. The exhibition was first held in 2017 at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. However, it included 8 fewer exhibits. This will be the first Gaultier exhibition in Serbia. Additionally, it will be the first fashion exhibition in the history of the Museum of Contemporary Art.

Gaultier opened his couture house back in 1997. Since then, every couture show had a wedding dress at the end. Do not forget 2015 though. He then started with a wedding dress and did a full show of just wedding dresses. Since then, they were his preoccupation.

Recall, Gaultier decided to end his fashion career this year. He has already held a farewell show. At the same time, his house continues to exist. A successful series of fragrances is coming out under this name. On the other hand, the launch of fashion collections will continue next year.
